Chet Hanks is sharing his advice on how to remain happy, as even those with everything aren’t always living the dream.
The model and actor, 35, is the son of Hollywood icons Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, 70 and 69, respectively. He was recently a guest on the Artist Friendly podcast with Joel Madden, where he talked about how he’s learned the most important thing in life is to be grateful.
Chet has had his fair share of controversies over the years, including his drug addiction and past use of the N-word, for which he has since apologized. This comes as he’s shared the life-changing decision he made after leaving rehab with no money.

“I feel like gratitude is the key to unlocking everything,” Chet said. “... you could have a job that you hate, but if you’re not at least grateful in that job, for your health, for your loved ones, then if you don’t learn the importance of gratitude when you don’t have s---, you’re not going to learn it when you get all that s---.”
He continued: “Even if you get all that s---. If you never learned why you have to be grateful, then it won’t even matter, and you won’t even enjoy it, and then what’s the point?
“Like how many miserable rich people do you know?”
Madden followed up with, “There’s a lot of them.”
He says he knows people who live in $100 million mansions, have whatever car they want, have access to yachts, but they still “hate everyone.”
“If you’re not grateful, if you don’t enjoy the simple s---, the simplest s---, if you don’t enjoy the sun on your face, a cup of coffee in the morning, ‘Oh wow, that breeze feels nice.’ Then what’s the point of waking up in the mansion?" He asked.
He said learning to enjoy the simple things was a journey that’s separate from success and career. Chet remarked that he still has a long way to go in his own career, but he’s gotten better at enjoying the simple things.
Chet has starred in various movies and television shows, from Project X (2012), Fantastic Four (2015), and Empire (2018-2019). Recently, he played the role of Travis Bugg on Netflix’s Running Point, starring Brenda Song and Kate Hudson.
He also has a country-rock band called Something Out West. The band recently performed at the Stagecoach Music Festival in Indio, California, where his father was seen rocking out in the audience.
While appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on April 28, Chet revealed he moved into a trailer park after moving to the Tennessee capital to pursue his country music career.
