‘They were little balls of mud and ash’: Kittens rescued after being washed away during Beaver County flood

BEAVER COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — As flash flood waters tore through Beaver County, many were devastated by the loss that came with it.

Three little kittens that could have been swallowed when the waters came instead washed up onto a property and were rescued by a few local good Samaritans.

“They were literally little balls of clumped mud and ash,” said Renee Rubinger, one of the residents who aided in the rescue.

During the floods, another individual handed the kittens to Rubinger over a fence, saying that they had washed up in the debris on her property. Luckily, Rubinger was able to locate someone who had a mother cat that was nursing and was able to take them after removing all of the debris from their fur.

“I want to warn people when debris flows into their yard to look through things carefully because it could easily be animals that got swept away,” Rubinger emphasized.

According to Rubinger, these weren’t the only animals to be swept away by the water.

“The same person who brought the kittens to me… said that the water had come up all the way to her dad’s windows on his house, and his dog had tragically drowned in the floods,” she said.

She added that because she is a frequent volunteer at the local animal shelter and an active member of the community, she often has people who reach out to her for help with strays.
