Toyota is attempting to lay claim to every segment of the off-road market, and the new Sequoia Trailhunter completes the package.

For the first time, the full-size, three-row SUV will be treated to Toyota’s most extreme off-road package for 2027. Old Man Emu suspension, Michelin LTX Trail tires, front recovery hooks, and extra underbody protection make up the majority of the off-road upgrades. A locking rear differential, Crawl Control, and Toyota’s Multi-Terrain Select drive mode system are also included. The addition of the Sequoia Trailhunter mirrors the Tundra Trailhunter, which was announced on Tuesday.

Like its Tundra pickup sibling, the Sequoia Trailhunter is distinguished by bronze-colored wheels and model-specific badging. Toyota says the Sequoia Trailhunter will be based on the lower-end SR5 trim, making the adventure-ready model more attainable. Toyota builds all Sequoia SUVs with a 3.4-liter, twin-turbo V-6, though some models are electrified with the automaker's hybrid i-Force Max system. The Japanese automaker has yet to specify which powertrain the Tundra Trailhunter will use, but we suspect it will be the non-electrified version given its SR5 trim underpinnings. The current version of the Sequoia SR5 offers 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque.

A new front fascia will be applied to all Sequoia models for the 2027 model year. Additionally, a new audio multimedia system created in partnership with AT&T is now integrated into the infotainment system with 5G network connectivity. A 14-inch infotainment screen is now standard on all Sequoia trim levels, along with a standard built-in Driver Recorder dash camera. The vehicle's exterior cameras are designed to capture 20-second clips of both manual and triggered events. A grille-mounted LED light bar has been upgraded with brighter output, while a Rigid fog light package is available as an option, too.

Toyota has not released pricing or production details for the 2027 Sequoia at this time. Similarly, mechanical specifications for the new Trailhunter trim were not revealed. Additional details will be announced this fall, Toyota said.
