With his role in The Odyssey, Robert Pattinson is proving why he’s Hollywood’s most fearless actor.
In The Odyssey, Pattinson plays Antinous, one of the many suitors of Penelope in Ithaca. With Odysseus still absent from his kingdom, Antinous makes a play for the throne when he conspires to have Telemachus assassinated. By the end of the movie, Antinous’ true colors show - he is a weak and dishonorable coward.

Because The Odyssey is a Christopher Nolan film, actors would have lined up to be in the production. However, Antinous would be at the bottom of the list of desirable parts.
Antinous is a difficult role to play. In a story full of honorable men, Antinous is as dishonorable as can be. He is entitled, spineless, and arrogant. Many of Hollywood’s best leading men would likely run away from this role. Pattinson, however, thrives when given challenging material.
Antinous is another example of how Pattinson has built his career on bold choices. After becoming an international star with five Twilight movies, Pattinson could have parlayed that success into blockbusters and big-budget movies. Instead, he spent the rest of the decade in smaller, independent films, including Life, The Lost City of Z, High Life, and The Lighthouse.
Pattinson is what I like to call a star who uses his powers for the greater good of cinema. Pattinson knows when to dip his toes into big-budget movies while always balancing his slate with prestige projects and indie movies. Starting in 2020, Pattinson starred in Tenet, The Devil All the Time, and The Batman. After playing Bruce Wayne, Pattinson’s next live-action role was in Mickey 17, where he played a clumsy goof with a weird voice.
Pattinson’s 2026 perfectly sums up his career. His lineup includes The Drama, The Odyssey, Primetime, Here Comes the Flood, and Dune: Part Three. In order, those movies are a black comedy, an epic fantasy, a psychological drama, a heist film, and a sci-fi blockbuster. No one in Hollywood is showcasing as much range as Pattinson will this year.
Pattinson is an actor who marches to the beat of his own drum. When you think he’ll zig, he’ll triple down on zagging. His refusal to be pigeonholed is admirable. Here’s to more bold choices from one of Hollywood’s most unique actors.
