Jonathan Bailey, Ella Purnell, Aimee Lou Wood and Maggie Gyllenhaal lead Audible’s new full-cast adaptation of Dracula.

There are so few figures that have cast a longer shadow (with no reflection) over horror than the most terrifying monster in literature. A figure whose stories have survived, at this point, quite literally centuries of retellings across film, television and the stage and yet whose re-emergence in a brand new reimagining is about to scare us out of our shoes and socks again.

Bram Stoker’s Dracula has been invited into homes countless times before, but rarely quite this literally. This autumn, listeners will be able to hear the Count whispering directly in their ears as one of literature’s most famous horror stories is transformed into a full-cast audio drama. Audible has officially announced Dracula, a full-cast Audible Original launching this autumn in multiple languages, with Jonathan Bailey leading the English-language production as the Count.

Who Else Stars in 'Dracula'?

Bailey is joined by Ella Purnell as Mina Murray, Aimee Lou Wood as Lucy Westenra, Louis Partridge as Jonathan Harker, David Jonsson as Dr. Seward, Lesley Manville as Mrs. Westenra and Maggie Gyllenhaal as Professor Van Helsing. The Audible production follows Purnell's Mina as she tries to piece together letters, diary entries and accounts from witnesses following Jonathan's disappearance in Transylvania. But as Dracula's influence spreads, and then Lucy falls under his control, Mina has to lead the fight against the most ancient evil while confronting the fact that Dracula may have already entered her mind.

“This is what Audible does best, crafting immersive audio experiences that transport listeners into the heart of the story,” said Aurélie de Troyer, Head of Audible Content, International.

“When Dracula whispers in your ear, when you hear his footsteps in the dark but see no reflection, that’s when you understand why we’re the home for this story. Our production elevates the psychological thriller at Dracula’s core, with the battle between Mina and Dracula as the heart of it all.”

She added: “We’ve assembled world-class casts across seven languages, from Jonathan Bailey and Ella Purnell to Omar Sy, Riccardo Scamarcio and Matthias Schweighöfer [who will lead the international language editions], exceptional international talent delivering a truly global Dracula.”

The production marks the audiobook directing debut of Mary Lambert, the filmmaker behind the cult horror classic Pet Sematary. The adaptation has been written by Robyn Ahern, while Ilan Eshkeri provides an original score designed to accompany an immersive cinematic soundscape.

Dracula premieres exclusively on Audible on October 1, with pre-orders available now.
