Reina Volcan made a dominant in-ring debut Tuesday on NXT against Skylar Raye.
In a match that lasted just over three minutes, Volcan rag-dolled Raye, but also showed off surprising quickness for a powerhouse.
After dropping Raye with a shoulder block, Volcan hit the ropes at top speed, slid under a leaping Raye, and caught her with a Randy Orton-style powerslam.
Then, after ripping Raye off the middle rope, causing her to go splat on the canvas, Volcan moved in for her finishing move.
Announcer Vic Joseph called it the Natural Disaster. Longtime fans who grew up watching wrestling’s classic strongmen recognize it as the Human Torture Rack or the Argentine Backbreaker.
Whatever you call it, this once-forgotten staple of power bruisers is back. It’s a fitting move for Volcan, who targeted Raye’s back with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker followed by a huge leaping elbow drop to her spine.
As debuts go, Volcan definitely made a statement. Props to Raye, who looked genuinely frightened at times. Booker T also put her over big, saying that Volcan was “going straight to the moon. Past the moon, to the nebula, baby!”
Wherever Volcan lands, her opponents better pray it’s not on top of them.
