San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey had a stellar comeback last season after playing just four games in 2024 due to a knee injury. There were concerns that he might have lost his explosiveness and agility, but he quickly put them to bed.
McCaffrey tallied 2,126 yards and 17 touchdowns and was named to the All-Pro First Team for the third time and the Pro Bowl for the fourth time. He was also named Comeback Player of the Year.
The 49ers added another threat alongside McCaffrey with the signing of wide receiver Mike Evans. After a 12-year tenure with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Evans felt like a change of scenery was needed, agreeing to a three-year, $42.4 million deal with San Francisco.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Conor Orr, McCaffrey will hugely benefit from the addition of Evans, thus boosting their odds to win the Super Bowl.
“As I’ve mentioned before, I think signing Evans was meant to rectify the situation with Christian McCaffrey running into so many heavy boxes and finding no room. The 49ers were 30th in yards per rushing attempt last season, which was the first time since 2021 that a (Kyle) Shanahan-called offense was outside the top 10 in that critical stat,” wrote Orr.
“As has been the case before, I feel like people are sleeping on a team that could very easily play in a Super Bowl just down the coast.”
The 32-year-old Evans will be another red-zone weapon for San Francisco, utilizing his physicality, tenacity, and experience.
With McCaffrey in full health, the 49ers tallied a 12-5 record last season. They, however, fell short in the divisional round of the playoffs against the Seattle Seahawks.
The 30-year-old McCaffrey has been putting in the work in the offseason, stressing that he is ready to carry a heavy load again for the Niners.
With Evans by his side, consider that a fair warning.
