Summary: Flashback to 2025, opening game of the season, the Cards are manhandling the Colonels of EKU, and the vibes are high. Little did we know what was going on in the background of this game, as EKU punter Jacob Baker was putting on a silent audition to come join the Cards just one year later. In that game alone, Baker punted nine times…
and my man had two of them go for over 50 yards, two of them inside the 20, and had zero touchbacks. Baker then kept that momentum rolling off the foot smoothly into the remainder of the season and earned himself some post season recognition as a first team all conference player by both the coaches, and notable college football journalist Phil Steele, double the recognition, double the cash and prizes.
Baker joined the Cards in January and by all reports has likely earned his way into a starting gig as we enter the fall camp. The Cards have had some high quality punters in the last decade or so, something we’ve discussed on this very countdown many times, so here’s hoping Baker adds his name to the list the next couple years.
“Punt a kick, punt a kick, Bakers the man….punt me a ball as far as you can”
