The Texas football team is hoping for a big year this season from quarterback Arch Manning. While Manning has played in a lot of games, he isn’t at the top of a list compiled by The Athletic, of the best college football quarterbacks in 2026.
Manning is actually listed at no. 7 on the list. Ahead of him are: Trinidad Chambliss, Dante Moore, CJ Carr, Darian Mensah, Julian Sayin, and Drew Mestemaker. The Texas play caller is still considered among the best college football quarterbacks in the country, despite that ranking.
“You’ve got to tip your cap to that kid, because after the start of last year, to be able to rebound the way that he did and play as good as he did down the stretch is really impressive and something that not very many people would be able to do,” a Big 12 offensive coordinator said to The Athletic. “I have a lot of respect for that kid and what he did. And I think he’s pretty dang good.”

Manning had his struggles during the 2025 season. He didn’t get Texas to the College Football Playoff, despite an outstanding ranking at the beginning of the season.
“Has all the tools you want to see. Got better throughout the year. Saw leadership, saw tenacity. Top tier in the country,” an SEC manager said.
Manning finished the 2025 season with 3,163 passing yards. He threw 26 touchdown passes, with seven interceptions. His team finished the campaign with a 10-3 record, winning their final three games.
Despite ending the year on a high note, Manning has some critics.
“I’m not a big Arch Manning fan. I think he’s just OK,” a Power 4 head coach said to the outlet. “I think he’s a little bit overhyped.”
Texas opens the 2026 college football season on September 5. The Longhorns take on Texas State. Time will tell if Manning is able to prove his doubters wrong this upcoming season.
