In the penultimate game of their 2026 college football regular-season schedule, the Tennessee Volunteers will welcome Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers to Knoxville for a highly-anticipated SEC matchup.
Kiffin has some rich history in Knoxville, coaching the Volunteers for one season in 2009 before famously leaving the program to take a new head coaching job with the USC Trojans. In his first game back to Neyland Stadium as head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels in 2021, the Tennessee faithful gave Kiffin a less-than-warm welcome.
After Ole Miss defeated Tennessee 31-26, various objects were hurled down onto the field in Kiffin’s direction — including a mustard bottle and golf balls.
Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel poked fun at Kiffin when asked about his return to Neyland Stadium later this year.
“I certainly hope that our fans haven’t cooled off,” Heupel said at SEC Media Days on Monday. “Whether it’s the grocery stores stocked up on mustard, or the sports stores that they’ve got reinforcements on the golf balls, hopefully Knoxville is ready for his arrival.”
According to college football reporter Michael Cauble, Heupel was just joking around with this response.
Kiffin took the LSU head coaching job before Ole Miss’ appearance in last year’s College Football Playoff. The Tigers are not scheduled to play against the Rebels in 2026.
LSU and Tennessee will face off on Nov. 21.
