A Saginaw man was sentenced to more than 17 years in federal prison this month after pleading guilty to supplying fentanyl-laced pills that caused a fatal overdose in 2023, according to federal prosecutors.
Kevin Chase McCauley, 38, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl, according to a news release from the Eastern District of Texas United States Attorney's Office on Monday.
Prosecutors said McCauley was arrested after an investigation in March 2023 into the death of a person at a residence on Stonecrest Road in Argyle. An investigation determined fentanyl was the confirmed cause of death and McCauley was the victim's fentanyl supplier, according to his indictment.
The victim died from an overdose of fentanyl-laced counterfeit hydrocodone pills, which they bought from McCauley, prosecutors said.
Five out of 10 fentanyl-laced pills contain a potentially lethal dose of the drug, according to 2024 data from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
