Like the other 10 NFL stadiums used for 2026 FIFA World Cup matches, the grass at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium has been removed now as workers transform each venue back into a place for football.

Fortunately for Chiefs players, artificial turf is not being reinstalled as it is elsewhere, much to the chagrin of other NFL stars. FIFA installed its own grass field that was specific to Kansas City for the six World Cup matches, and it held up well thanks in no small measure to the Chiefs groundskeepers who helped maintain it.
Travis Hogan, the head groundskeeper for the Chiefs, shared photos of the field on social media and wrote: “Hosting 6 games of the World Cup was an amazing experience. Since all of our games were at night, the pitch never got to truly shine in the sunlight. Big thanks to my staff for their efforts to make it better for every match! World Cup 2026 was a blast!”
Groundskeeper Alec Wickey also provided a closer look at the field and one photo of the work when the process was started.
But now it’s back to the NFL as the groundskeepers install a new field by Aug. 15, when the Chiefs take on the Rams in a preseason game.
TikTok user Kayla Rene shared a number of videos that show the work that is being done to transform the stadium back to the home of the Chiefs. And that work is not being done solely on the field
Some of the names in the Chiefs’ Ring of Honor are visible again after being covered by FIFA for some reason during the World Cup matches. And you can also spot where the seats that were removed are being reinstalled.
