It’s been over a month since Sweet Magnolias season 5 premiered—but fans are already itching to see more of Serenity!
The hit Netflix drama dropped its latest installment on June 11, and viewers got the chance to catch up with Maddie Townsend (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue Sullivan (Brooke Elliott), and Helen Decatur (Heather Headley). And with Maddie figuring out the next phase of her career, Dana Sue experiencing marital woes, and Helen getting married, it feels like there’s so much to explore with our favorite group of friends.
While Netflix hasn’t revealed details about the future of Sweet Magnolias, the show’s Instagram did share a behind-the-scenes clip from filming Helen’s wedding. What’s more, the Sweet Magnolias social team expressed gratitude to everyone who tuned in for the last installment.
Sweet Magnolias Season 5 has been out for a month!” the caption read on July 11. “Characters like these (the actors and who they play) make the hard work fun, and y’all make the hard work worth it. Thank you for every minute watched, every post liked, and every friend you told about us. Pour it out!”
Given how uncertain Sweet Magnolias’ future is, fans took to the comments to beg for answers about season 6.
“Ok so a month ago I finished season 5, when is season 6 coming?” one person implored. “I need more of Sweet Magnolias 😭😭😭,” another agreed. “We deserve another season please @netflix,” a different follower added.
While we won’t know what’s happening with Sweet Magnolias for some time, the cast is hopeful that more episodes are on the way. In fact, JoAnna expressed excitement for potentially seeing more from Cal (Justin Bruening) bringing an independent baseball team to the town.
“It was one of my favorite storylines that we've ever had on the show, and if we get a season six, I really am excited to dig deeper into that,” she told Good Housekeeping back in June. “It was something Nick and I talked about a ton, because we do live in a really small town right now, yeah, outside of Atlanta, and we love our community so much, and we're really building, you know, a strong foundation here, and we have an independent baseball team here ... it was so interesting that this storyline came up on the show at the exact same time.”
