After Supergirl underperformed at the box office, the story that inspired the movie is getting a brand-new release by the end of the year.

Kara Zor-El’s latest cinematic adventure may have already landed in theaters with an almighty thud, but DC is not finished with Supergirl. The acclaimed comic that inspired the DC Studios movie is being adapted once again, giving us the chance to experience it differently.

However, this time we're getting it as something closer to an audio drama than a traditional audiobook, and it will come complete with a full cast, original music, and sound effects. Plus, Krypto. DC and Penguin Random House Audio have announced that the complete eight-issue Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow series will be released as a full-cast audiobook on September 1, 2026. Full-cast audio versions of popular books and series have become en vogue recently, particularly with the success of the star-studded Harry Potter Audible series.

Marcella Lentz-Pope will voice Supergirl, with Amelia Tyler serving as the older Ruthye and narrator. Lim Shi-An voices the younger Ruthye, while Jon Bailey takes on the dual roles of Krem and Krypto. The wider cast includes Marc Thompson as Zor-El, Ellen Adair as Alura and Tan Kheng Hua as Ruthye’s mother. The original series was written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely.

‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ Is Becoming an Audio Epic

The production is directed, produced, and adapted by Roshan Singh Sambhi, who previously worked as co-showrunner on the DC audio drama DC High Volume: Batman. Sambhi described the project as a faithful “love letter” to the original comic, with the team studying each panel while translating its enormous cosmic imagery into sound.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is one of the most ornately beautiful pieces of sequential storytelling ever put to page,” Sambhi said. “We’ve faithfully studied every panel to build a theater of the mind, an operatic daydream that sits differently in each listener’s imagination.” The official synopsis states:

"Kara Zor-El finds her life without purpose. A young woman who saw her planet destroyed, she was sent to Earth to protect a baby cousin who ended up not needing her. When an alien girl seeks her out for a vicious mission of revenge, Supergirl, her dog Krypto, and the angry child head into space on a journey that will shake them to their very core."

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be released as an audio download on September 1, 2026.
