Summer sandal season is so overrated. Okay, I’m only slightly joking because, of course, breathable shoes are essential when it’s in the high 80s and you need to be ready to slip them off the second you set foot on grass. Ahh. But, while sandals are the obvious, a not-so-classic footwear style has emerged as summer (and fall) 2026’s It option, and musician and model Suki Waterhouse just wore it.
The style icon was spotted out in London wearing perhaps the coolest outfit I have seen all week. (It’s only Wednesday, but I foresee it maintaining this title come Friday). She wore low-rise straight-leg jeans, a must-try if you’re willing to embrace the early aughts, hip-bone grazing style. She paired her denim with a sheer blouse that appeared to have lace underlay (umm, so chic!). But the winning piece? Her Adidas SL 72 sneakers that might be cooler than your Sambas. Yes, I said it.

It’s no secret that Adidas is the shoe brand that has taken over summer 2026. I can’t think of a celebrity who hasn’t worn the German brand (the 2026 World Cup probably had something to do with its immense popularity), but noteworthy names include Amal Clooney, Jennifer Aniston, Dakota Johnson, and Julianne Moore. I personally am a fan, too, and sure, I might be biased because I’m German, but I really do think the brand makes some of the comfiest sneakers on the market.
Waterhouse ushered in a newish style, too. Sambas are a classic, but she opted for the SL 72 silhouette, which is a narrower, more retro-inspired runner with a treaded gum sole. You’ll still find those signature three strips and unmatched comfort but in a sleek shoe that pairs seamlessly with summer dresses. Waterhouse’s exact brown colorway is nearly sold out, but there are so many different iterations to choose from; I’m partial to this cow-print since it’s another huge trend to know right now.
