Star Wars announces official dark side Yoda

Star Wars Announces Official Dark Side Yoda

Star Wars' Jedi Master Yoda is as incorruptible as the best of the Jedi, but he's officially turned to the dark side of the Force in a new appearance.

Few Star Wars characters seem as if they’d never be incorruptible and eventually turn to the dark side of the Force if pushed far enough to the brink of despair. For instance, it’s been nothing short of a miracle that we still haven’t seen the Star Wars Jedi franchise’s Cal Kestis fully turn, though even he has indulged in some dark-side-fueled rage in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and it wouldn’t at all be out of the realm of possibility to see him bleed his lightsaber in the third game.

That said, there are some Jedi whose turn to the dark side would either be completely absurd or unprecedented, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi or Luke Skywalker. Perhaps most unwavering of all, though, is Star Wars’ Jedi Master Yoda. However, Star Wars is preparing to officially unveil a Yoda who has indeed turned to the dark side, depicting how frightening he might be in an upcoming era of myths and legends.

On EA Forums, the mobile collectible RPG Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes has announced an update called “The Era of Myths & Legends” that, as the name suggests, is drawing from non-canon Star Wars sources like Legends lore for new characters joining. These characters include Darth Jar Jar and Mara Jade Skywalker, as well as what’s dubbed a “Dark Side Vision” of Yoda.

While every other character has had their model art revealed, the art for Yoda (Dark Side Vision) is being withheld “on purpose,” which makes this surprise all the more intriguing. Thankfully, the full kit has been revealed for Yoda (Dark Side Vision) in the meantime, so players can assess how well he might fit into their team compositions.

Star Wars’ Darth Jar Jar and Yoda (Dark Side Vision) are only two of the dark side units being added in this update, with some being attuned to the dark side and others being attuned to the light side. But, Darth Jar Jar and Yoda (Dark Side Vision) seem to be the only ones in this bunch that are not available now, with their release dates left undetermined.

It’s interesting that this version of Yoda isn’t simply called “Darth Yoda.” Oddly enough, the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV show did already feature a dark-side vision of Yoda, and perhaps they are one and the same, though that would make it a canon character, more or less, rather than a myth or a legend.

Either way, it’s exciting that Star Wars is continuing to embrace parts of the lore that are not considered canonical. One day, it would be great to see more of these myths and legends make the leap into canon proper.
