After weeks of anticipation and recent false alarm with the Avengers Doomsday trailer, the Spider-Man Brand New Day second trailer appears to be dropping very soon. Multiple industry sources and Twitter insiders are reporting that journalists have already seen the new trailer, suggesting a release either Thursday or Friday of this week.
What to expect from the new trailer
According to multiple leak descriptions, the second trailer will feature expanded scenes from the Scorpion fight sequence, clearer shots of Sadie Sink's Jean Grey character, and brand new scenes including the return of Savage Hulk. This isn't just Bruce Banner as we saw in the first trailer, but the full green raging Hulk monster making an appearance in the film.
The Hulk appearing alongside Spider-Man has led some to speculate that the two might clash, which follows Marvel's classic formula of having heroes fight when they first meet or early in the conflict. This creates the familiar debate among fans about who would win before they eventually team up against a common enemy.
Identifying the main villain
While Scorpion has been front and center and Sadie Sink's mystery character has been rumored as a potential villain, evidence points to the Hand as the primary antagonist. The rumored team-up of Spider-Man, Hulk, Punisher, and Daredevil only makes sense if they have a collective villain to face. The Hand's ninja army provides exactly that, setting up action sequences where the heroes can fight through waves of enemies before confronting what appears to be Mariko Yashida as the leader of the Hand and final boss.
There's also ongoing speculation that MJ's boyfriend could be the villain Tarantula, seen fighting Spider-Man in the first trailer. Merchandise already released features Spider-Man, Hulk, Boomerang, and Tarantula together, suggesting Tarantula may have more than one encounter throughout the film.
Peter Parker himself has also been theorized as a potential antagonist, with the film exploring Peter versus Peter as he descends into what might become Man-Spider by the film's conclusion.
A different approach to the Spider-Man story
Marvel and Sony appear to be taking a departure from traditional storytelling with this entry. Rather than following the conventional formula of a single main villain, Brand New Day seems to feature multiple antagonists. This makes sense given the enormous shadow cast by Spider-Man: No Way Home. The only way to move forward is to offer something completely different from what audiences have seen before.
Kevin Feige's statement about returning to the roots of comic Spider-Man suggests the film will focus on what made Spider-Man compelling in the source material: the people surrounding Peter Parker, those he loves and wants to protect, and those he must fight against. The central conflict appears to be Peter Parker balancing Spider-Man with his personal life, trying to navigate both his responsibilities and his relationships.
The assembly of characters including Hulk, Punisher, and Daredevil, combined with the multiple villain factions, suggests a story more about Spider-Man within an ensemble rather than a single hero facing one primary antagonist.
