Sony released the final Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer online, a day after the Avengers: Doomsday trailer. It recaps Peter’s memory wipe, pits him against a Savage Hulk, reveals Scorpion, and teases a reunion with MJ and Ned. The film opens July 31.

The wait is almost over. Sony and Marvel dropped the final trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day on YouTube, giving fans their last big look at Tom Holland‘s return before the movie hits theaters in a little over a week.

The trailer actually debuted in theaters first, running ahead of The Odyssey before leaking online, and now it’s officially up for everyone. It also landed one day after the Avengers: Doomsday trailer, so Marvel fans got two major trailers back to back.

What the final trailer shows

The trailer opens with a montage of the previous Holland Spider-Man movies, walking new and returning viewers through how Peter got here, ending on the moment he had everyone’s memory of him erased to save them. It’s a catch-up for anyone who needs one before the new story begins.

From there, Brand New Day picks up about four years after Spider-Man: No Way Home. Peter is living alone, fighting crime full-time in a New York that doesn’t know his name, while Ned and MJ have graduated MIT and moved on without him. The studio’s logline teases a surprising physical change in Peter, one he may struggle to control, tied to a new threat described as a villain “no one can even see.”

The emotional hook comes near the end, where the trailer teases a reunion between Peter, MJ, and Ned. After all the isolation, it’s the first real hint that the people Peter erased might find their way back to him.

No Banner, only Hulk

The moment fans latched onto is the Hulk, and this trailer doesn’t just tease him. It shows Mark Ruffalo‘s Hulk going head to head with Spider-Man.

This isn’t the wisecracking Smart Hulk from recent movies, either. It’s a feral, classic version, and the trailer sells it with one line: “No Banner, only Hulk.” For longtime fans, this is the Savage Hulk they’ve wanted since Avengers: Endgame, and seeing him trade blows with Spidey pushed the excitement over the top. Hot Toys has already revealed a Savage Hulk figure based on Ruffalo’s look in the film.

Scorpion, the Punisher, and a villain no one can see

The Hulk isn’t the only reveal. The trailer also gives the first good look at Scorpion, with Michael Mando finally suited up as Mac Gargan, the character Marvel set up all the way back in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

There’s more Marvel muscle, too. Jon Bernthal‘s Punisher shows up, pulling the harder-edged, street-level corner of Marvel into a Spider-Man movie, alongside ninjas from the Hand. Separate from Scorpion, the film is also building to that unseen mystery villain, shown as a hooded figure whose identity Sony is keeping under wraps.

Returning faces include Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned, while Sadie Sink‘s role stays a mystery despite months of fan speculation.

Fan reactions

The response has been overwhelmingly hyped. The Hulk dominated the comments, with fans repeating “No Banner, only Hulk” and singling out the Hulk-versus-Spider-Man clash as the highlight.

A lot of the reaction is about the double dose of Marvel, too. Coming a day after the Doomsday trailer, fans called it a great week to be a Marvel fan, with comments like “we are so back” and jokes about “eating good” with two trailers in 24 hours.

The other running theme is how sad Peter looks. Fans turned his isolation into a wave of jokes, nicknaming the movie things like “Brand New Depression,” while also calling the reunion tease the emotional gut-punch they didn’t expect. It’s been nearly five years since Holland last played the character on the big screen, and the comments make clear the audience has been counting.

Release date and box office

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, hits theaters on July 31. Early box office tracking has it opening as high as $230 million to $250 million in North America, which would make it the biggest debut of the year.

After five years and a memory wipe, Peter Parker is back at the end of the month. If that tracking holds, a lot of people are about to remember him.
