The FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup was held from July 11-20 in Brno, Czechia. There were several players with South Carolina offers who participated. Find out how they performed.
The United States cruised to the gold medal, going undefeated in seven games. Only two games, one in the group stage and the gold medal game, were decided by single digits.
Ivanna Wilson Manyacka and Micah Ojo, both 6-0 wings (per FIBA), highlight the players from the 2027 class. Wilson Manyacka is the second-ranked player in the class, and Ojo is ranked seventh. Both have offers from South Carolina, and both are still wide open.
Tatianna Griffin and Morghan Reckley are members of the 2028 class. Griffin is a 6-0 guard from California. She is the top-ranked player in the class and has had a Gamecock offer since middle school. Reckley, a point guard, is ranked fifth in the class by ESPN. She was offered by South Carolina in the spring.
Wilson Manyacka was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. She led the US by averaging 12.9 points, and added 6.0 rebounds, 2.6 steals, and 1.7 assists. She made the game-clinching steal in a 74-72 win over Australia, and then grabbed 10 rebounds against Spain in the gold medal game. Wilson Manyacka lived up to her hype as the second-ranked player in the class.
Ojo averaged 11.0 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.1 steals. She had a double-double against Mexico in the group stage and scored a team-high 20 points against Spain.
Reckley averaged 8.1 points, a team-high 5.0 assists, and 2.0 steals. She struggled with turnovers, especially in the semifinal and final, when she committed a combined 11 turnovers. Griffin averaged 9.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists. She finished on a low note, struggling against Spain, but her offensive versatility made it clear why she leads the 2028 class.
Additionally, Nation Williams, Eve Long, and Caroline Bradley have Gamecock offers, but Williams has eliminated South Carolina, while Long committed to Notre Dame and Bradley committed to LSU.
Canada’s Avery Arije also has a Gamecock offer. Arije is a 6-0 guard from Crestwood Prep, the same elite school where Agot Makeer spent time. Arije is ranked 17th by ESPN and 247, and 23rd by Rivals. She has South Carolina in her top six.
Avery averaged 12.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists. She tied for the team lead in scoring and led Canada in assists. Avery only shot 18.2% from three, but she made up for it by getting to the line (with 10 attempts against Italy and 12 against Czechia) and knocking down 76.5% of her free throws. She scored in double figures in all but one game, and showed a lot of promise.
