The old Days Inn, the former Best Western and an RV park near the Great Hall Banquet & Convention Center on Bay City Road have been preemptively sold ahead of a planned auction, according to auctioneers.
Auction-runners Rick Levin of Rick Levin & Associates, Inc., and Joel Zegart JBS Advisors, Inc., did not share the identity of the buyer but said there had been a number of interested parties.
Originally, buyers had until July 21 to submit sealed bids for the parcel, with a live auction between the highest bidders expected to take place on July 22. Landowner Millennium Bank of Illinois decided to sell the property early after receiving a “compelling offer,” according to Zegart. Other prospective buyers were notified of the decision, he said.
Zegart said he did not yet know what the buyers intend to do with the property.
The three parcels of land total just under 20 acres. Parcel 1 is a vacant 6.5-acre site at 5221 Bay City Road that once held a Best Western hotel. Parcel 2 at 5217 Bay City Road measures four acres and includes a “60-room hotel shell with an indoor pool” that would require full renovation. Parcel 3 at 800 Rockwell Drive is a nine-acre vacant RV park.
The former Days Inn at the site, along with the former Best Western once located at 5221 Bay City Road, were closed in August 2022 after being condemned by the city for code violations. Millennium Bank came into possession of the former hotels in September 2023, records show. The former Best Western was demolished in 2025.
More information about the buyers will be available in the coming weeks.
