Sihl has launched a new range of polyethylene (PE) label films with aqueous (AQ) inkjet coatings, broadening print-on-demand choices for label converters.
The company said the PE films are highly conformable, enabling labels to fit curved and squeezable containers without creasing.
Sihl added that the materials’ low rigidity makes them particularly suitable for small-diameter containers, delivering more flexibility than traditional biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) or polyethylene terephthalate (PET) label substrates.
The new lineup features four aqueous inkjet coating variants aimed at different application needs.
These include IHG1 Gloss for premium glossy graphics, IG1 Satin for a satin-look finish, ZM1 Matt BS5609 for outdoor uses requiring water and chemical resistance, and IM1 Matt Universal as a multi-purpose option for a broad range of indoor labeling applications.
According to Sihl, the introduction marks the first time aqueous inkjet technology has been applied to PE film labels.
The company said the portfolio also helps the label sector address the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) requirements in the area of mono-materials.
Sihl noted that pairing a PE label with a PE container, together with print-on-demand inkjet technology, creates a more sustainable option for manufacturers and brands.
