The North American investment bank provided advisory services for 13 deals totalling $17.9bn.

BMO Capital Markets has emerged as the leading financial adviser for metals and mining sector mergers and acquisitions (M&A), both in terms of deal value and volume, for the first half of 2026 (H1 2026), based on a league table from data analytics company GlobalData.

According to GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database, BMO Capital Markets provided advisory services for 13 deals totalling $17.9bn.

In terms of deal value, Goldman Sachs ranked second, advising on transactions worth $15bn.

The Bank of Nova Scotia came next with $10.8bn, while RBC Capital Markets and the National Bank of Canada completed deals worth $10.4bn and $8.4bn, respectively.

Regarding deal volume, Canaccord Genuity Group secured the second spot with eight deals.

Moelis & Company advised on seven deals, while Goldman Sachs and the Bank of Nova Scotia were involved in six and five deals, respectively.

GlobalData lead analyst Aurojyoti Bose said: “BMO Capital Markets was the top adviser by both metrics in H1 2025 and managed to retain its leadership positions in H1 2026 as well.

“It registered year-on-year improvement in terms of deal volume and value, but the growth was more prominent in value, with more than a fourfold jump.

“In H1 2026, BMO Capital Markets advised on five billion-dollar deals and its involvement in these big-ticket deals helped it register a massive jump in terms of value.”

GlobalData’s league tables are based on the real-time tracking of thousands of company websites, advisory firm websites and other reliable sources available in the secondary domain. A dedicated team of analysts monitors all these sources to gather in-depth details for each deal, including adviser names.

To ensure further robustness of the data, the company also seeks submissions of deals from leading advisers.
