Princess Diana perished in a car crash inside the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris, as her driver fled a relentless pack of paparazzi. Her companion at the time, Dodi Fayed, and their driver, Henri Paul, also lost their lives in the collision, reports the Express US.

Her funeral took place on September 6, 1997, with the ceremony broadcast across more than 200 countries, drawing an estimated 2.5 billion viewers worldwide.

Diana was laid to rest at Althorp Estate, also known as Oval Lake Grave, the longstanding home of the Spencer family. Her brother Charles revealed the location was selected so she could "be properly looked after by her family and visited in privacy by her sons."
