Catherine Giudici Lowe and Sean Lowe are sharing an update on their son Isaiah.

The couple, who met and got engaged during season 17 of The Bachelor, shared on Tuesday, July 21, that their 8-year-old son Isaiah Hendrix has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. In a lengthy post on her Instagram, Giudici Lowe, 40, explained that Isaiah had been experiencing a few symptoms, prompting them to see a doctor.

“This past week has been a rough one for the Lowes. Our precious boy Isaiah was admitted to Children’s Hospital and diagnosed with type 1 diabetes,” she began her caption. “Our wonderful pediatrician noticed some symptoms at our annual appointment that stuck out to her.”

The mom of three explained that Isaiah had lost 11 lbs. since his last visit, which she initially thought was from a growth spurt, and he had been drinking and peeing a lot.

“Otherwise healthy and active, she ran some tests and sent us to the emergency room based on those alarming results,” said Giudici Lowe. “Thankful for the nurses, doctors and staff who gave us a 4 year college education on his condition in 4 days.”

Giudici Lowe shared that her son had “endured countless injections” and spent four days away from home in a new lifestyle and routine that feels “very foreign.”

“He’s done all this without losing his playful spirit and a joy that doesn’t make sense,” she said. “A lot of tears, pain and confusion too, but he has been a trooper, no question about it.”

“Isaiah is my new hero and I am so proud to be his mama. Prayers for him, his siblings and his parents are welcomed as we navigate this new normal. ❤️.”

Alongside Isaiah, Giudici Lowe shares son Samuel, 10, and daughter Mia, 6, with husband Lowe, 42.

In July 2024, Lowe spoke with PEOPLE and revealed that his son Samuel had recently made a confession that filled his dad with dread.

“He’s also to the point where he knows how to work Google, which scares me to death... He’s like, ‘Daddy, I Googled you at school with my friends,’ “ Lowe told PEOPLE.

“‘What do you mean? Don’t do that. Don’t do that,’ “ the former TV personality recalled his response. “I do not want him to see a lot of the things on that show.”
