The stars behind The Chosen are about to go on a wild adventure with Bear Grylls.
PEOPLE can exclusively unveil the trailer for Prime Video’s The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls, set to premiere on Aug. 9. The series follows the cast of religious drama The Chosen, as well as the series’ creator and executive producer Dallas Jenkins, as Grylls, 52, leads them on expeditions in the wild.
“I’m Bear Grylls, and the outdoors and adventure has been my life,” the host says in the footage, over a montage of his daring escapades. “The TV phenomenon, The Chosen, is a story of the greatest adventure of all time.”
“Get to know the people behind the Bible story for an expedition of their own,” Grylls continues. “I hope to uncover who they really are by pushing them to their absolute limits.”
The renowned adventurer takes Jenkins and the cast — which includes Jonathan Roumie (Jesus), Paras Patel (Matthew), Elizabeth Tabish (Mary Magdalene), Noah James (Andrew) and Luke Dimyan (Judas) — on a journey through the wilderness, as they leap from planes, eat scorpions and zip-line over canyons along the way.

The trailer finds each of Grylls’ guests detailing the reservations they have before embarking on their respective journeys. Dimyan confesses, “Naturally, I’m someone who’s very afraid,” while Tabish reveals she throws her neck out “very easily,” which makes her hesitant.
“For decades, Bear has survived dangerous expeditions around the globe, anchored by his faith in Jesus,” a synopsis reads. “Now he’s taking the stars of the global hit series on missions into the unknown.”
Grylls takes the daring cast to some of the more rugged terrain in the U.S. for the new project, traveling through Utah’s Castle Valley and Canyonlands, the Ausable River, the Colorado River, the Great Basin Desert and the Adirondacks. “Bear pushes his guests beyond their comfort zones while exploring what makes them tick and drawing out deeply personal conversations about faith and spirituality,” the synopsis continues.
The six-episode series is directed by Robert Austin Vanover, with Grylls and Jenkins serving as executive producers.
The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls premieres on Prime Video on Aug. 9.
