The Seattle Seahawks did something nobody thought was possible last season and won the Super Bowl.
The team is elite in most aspects, but some people were skeptical because of quarterback Sam Darnold’s track record and the team having a young head coach in Mike Macdonald.
However, Seattle achieved the ultimate goal on the back of the best defense in the NFL and one of the best rushing attacks. The backfield was led by running backs Zach Charbonnet and Kenneth Walker III, but the latter left this offseason for a bigger role with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Walker had a postseason to remember after Charbonnet was knocked out of the lineup with an injury, tallying 313 rushing yards and four touchdowns in three playoff games. The Seahawks knew they’d need to replace this production if they wanted to have a similar season, so they decided to take running back Jadarian Price with the last pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Why Jadarian Price may be Seahawks’ most important player
The talented ball-carrier was arguably one of the most talented players in the draft, but he was the backup to running back Jeremiyah Love in college, meaning he didn’t see nearly as many touches as he could handle. This allowed him to slip to the 32nd pick, giving Seattle a fresh, young back who is ready to handle the responsibility of carrying a backfield.
When asked by NFL Network's Mike Garafolo if he’s ready to handle the majority of the snaps, Price responded resoundingly, “I’m ready. This is everything I’ve asked for.”
Darnold appeared to be much more comfortable and confident last season when he had the chance to run play action and play complementary football. Really, the only time the team saw any trouble was when it trailed in a game and was forced to air the ball out with no variety in its attack.
For these reasons, along with the fact that Charbonnet is working his way back to full health, Price should see a huge role early on in the season. The Seahawks have superstars all over the field, but their first-round rookie could hold the keys to the team’s success.
