Charlie Woods, Tiger Woods' only son, had a chance to pick up his biggest career accomplishment to date at the 2026 U.S. Junior Amateur this week. Unfortunately for the budding star, he just missed out on the match-play stage because a careless fan forgot to silence their phone.
Woods, a Florida State golf commit, shot 76-70 in two rounds of stroke play to play his way into a 14-for-2 playoff on Wednesday morning at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa. The 17-year-old was in the third of four playoff groups, and he knew he needed to make a birdie on the first playoff hole to stay alive.

After a solid drive on the par-5 first hole, Woods went for the green in two from 270 yards out and just missed the green in the left rough. As Woods began his backswing on his greenside chip, a fan's phone camera sounded, throwing off his concentration and causing him to duff his chip onto the front fringe. In a video posted by X user Trevor Keaton, you can hear a frustrated Woods exclaim, "Really, dude?" after duffing the chip.
Woods was unable to sink his 35-foot chip for birdie to extend his playoff, and his U.S. Junior Amateur run was over.
Despite the disappointing ending, it was still an impressive run for Woods. In his first two attempts at the U.S. Junior Amateur, Woods shot 82-80 and 80-74 and didn't come close to qualifying for match play. This time around, he was 4-over through two holes but played his final 33 holes in 1-over par to crack the 14-for-2 playoff.
Woods' competitive career is just beginning, and these are important tournament reps for a young player with so much pressure on his shoulders.
