Scrubs season 2 confirms two major cast exits

Ahead of its season 2 premiere this fall, Scrubsis saying farewell to two actors and making other changes to the cast.

After a 16-year hiatus, Scrubs returned earlier this year with original stars Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, Donald Faison, Judy Reyes and John C. McGinley. They were joined by new cast members Joel Kim Booster, Vanessa Bayer, Ava Bunn, David Gridley, Jacob Dudman, Amanda Morrow and Layla Mohammadi, among others.

However, Scrubs is undergoing a cast shake-up heading into its second season, which includes the departures of Booster and X Mayo, who played Dr. Kevin Park and Nurse Raymond, respectively, according to Deadline.

On the plus side, Bunn, who plays intern Sam Tosh, is receiving a promotion from recurring star to series regular. Braff, Faison and Chalke are staying put as the three lead characters JD, Turk and Elliot, respectively.

Other returning cast members include Dudman (as Asher Green), Gridley (Blake Lewis), Mohammadi (Amara Hadi), Morrow (Dashana Trainor), McGinley (Perry Cox), Reyes (Carla Espinosa), Bayer (Sibby), Robert Maschio (The Todd) and Michael James Scott (Dubois), all still in recurring roles. Back as a guest star is Christa Miller (as Jordan Sullivan).

Meanwhile, Neil Flynn, who played the janitor during the original run of Scrubsand made an appearance in the finale this past spring, is returning in a recurring capacity. Rachel Bilson also showed up in the finale as Charlie, and she'll be back as well.

Andy Ridings joined the Scrubs revival for three episodes as Wes, a pilot who dates Elliot, but his status on the show is currently unclear, as the producers haven't decided yet whether to bring him back. Darcy Michael (Maintenance Guy) is in the same situation.

There's also still no update on Ken Jenkins, who appeared in all nine seasons of the original Scrubsas Dr. Bob Kelso. Earlier this year, creator Bill Lawrence claimed that his character would show up in the revival's second season, but amid all of these casting announcements, Jenkins' name is missing from the list.

Behind the scenes, Lawrence, Braff, Faison, Chalke, showrunner Aseem Batra, Jeff Ingold, Liza Katzer, Mathew Harawitz, Randall Keenan Winston and Michael Spiller are all still on board as executive producers, with Mike Royce joining the producing team beginning next season.

Two weeks after the Scrubs revival finale aired in April, ABC announced that it was greenlighting another season, which will air in the same timeslot, Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EDT, where it will be followed by Abbott Elementary, Celebrity Jeopardy and Shark Tank.

The network has yet to announce its fall 2026 premiere dates, but Scrubs season 2 will consist of 10 episodes, compared to nine for the first season. When the series returns, J.D., Turk, and Elliot will continue supervising a group of interns as they navigate the challenges of the healthcare industry.
