Scottie Scheffler will make his debut in the 3M Open just days after coming up short in The Open Championship.
Scheffler’s winless run continued at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in the fourth and final major championship of the year, and the American is not taking any time off after returning from a two-week swing in the United Kingdom.
Scheffler finished T4 in The Open, a result most professional golfers would take in a heartbeat. But for the world No. 1 and reigning champion, it marked a 15th consecutive tournament without a victory, his longest winless run since going 18 events without a trophy between April 2022 and Jan. 2023.

Many of the world’s best players are skipping the 3M Open this week to rest up ahead of the home stretch of the PGA Tour season, but not Scheffler. The 30-year-old said his surprise entry into the field is to avoid taking a three-week hiatus before the FedEx Cup Playoffs begin in August.
As the only player ranked inside the top 20 in the world taking part at TPC Twin Cities this week, Scheffler is the overwhelming favorite to take home the trophy.
He has +260 odds to win the tournament, well ahead of contenders like Kurt Kitayama (+2500), who won last year’s 3M Open, Maverick McNealy (+2700), Hideki Matsuyama (+3000), and Tom Kim (+3000).
If Scheffler does triumph in Minnesota this week, it will come with limited practice and preparation at TPC Twin Cities, where he has never played a competitive tournament prior to this year.
He even admitted he is keeping it light on pre-tournament practice sessions after returning from the UK on Monday, something golfers typically rely on to warm up to a course they haven’t played before.
That said, Scheffler is widely considered the most talented player in the world, so he certainly has the ability to step onto a new course and perform at his very best right away.
Scheffler’s winless run has been far from a disaster. In 15 tournaments since he won The American Express in Jan. 2026, he has nine top-five finishes and four solo runner-ups. The only major he finished outside the top-five was at the PGA Championship, where he came T14.

At the Scottish Open, the first of two events across the pond earlier this month, Scheffler missed his first cut since 2022.
Six of the seven 3M Open winners in history have shot 17-under par or better on their way to victory, so Scheffler will likely need to be at his ball-striking best to snap his winless rut in Minnesota this week.
