Russell Martin will know even more about his Leicester camp after Spain

Spain is a very popular destination, it seems, when it comes to pre-season training camps.

At a quick glance, Peterborough United - who will play alongside Leicester City in League One next season - have just come back from their own training set-up in the Spanish sunshine, having surprisingly played Neom SC, who hail from Saudi Arabia.

Bristol City have also jetted off to these tourist-friendly shores for their own camp, with Lorent Tolaj recently joining the Robins' ranks, having once been on Leicester's transfer agenda.

Russell Martin will know a lot more about his squad after this week in Spain is over, after they won three pre-season games on the trot in England.

The early signs are promising

Leicester ended their trio of games on home soil with a comfortable 3-0 victory over fellow League One side Burton Albion.

These games have seen the youngsters in the Foxes squad really come into their own, with Will Alves popping up with goals all across the contests, as the Midlands side also got the better of Northampton Town and Bristol Rovers from League Two.

Kirsten Otchere was also in amongst the goals, with a growing hope on the teenager's end that he can make a first-team breakthrough in the third tier.

He will be tested in the Spanish heat a lot more, as the Foxes play the likes of newly-promoted La Liga outfit Malaga, who will be a jump up in quality from the Gas and the Cobblers.

It's not just the youngsters Martin will be keeping a close eye on, as he grows used to what he has at his disposal, with both Alex McCarthy and Conor Chaplin set to be involved, ready to prove they can be key parts of a promotion machine.

He will have an even better understanding when this week is done

Neither McCarthy or Chaplin would feature in those patch of friendlies on English shores, as they got up to speed with their new surroundings.

Now, after sufficient time with the group, they will be unleashed into the team in the sweltering Mediterranean humidity, with an eagerness to impress so they can live up to their billing as being vital parts of a promotion-chasing starting XI.

If this blend of youth and experience works, far away from Leicestershire, Martin will have a better understanding of what team he should select for the opening day test against Notts County.

Being able to compete with a newly promoted La Liga team should stand them in good stead to compete in League One, with the youngsters becoming more accustomed to the hustle and bustle of men's action by the day, alongside McCarthy and Chaplin blowing off their cobwebs.

If they were trip up and lose two on the bounce, however, after a flawless run of results, more signings could well be sought after at a quick pace, to boost the options Martin already has.

After this holiday camp is over, the new League One season looms on the horizon, with a hope the Foxes come out of the traps with a drive and hunger to collect wins galore, after learning a lot about themselves during this off period.
