The Lord of the Rings fans have a lot to look forward to in the next few years, but the first project up on the schedule is The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which is finally returning for Season 3 on November 11. The Prime Video series aired its first season back in 2022, and after returning for Season 2 in 2024, Season 3 is set to close out the year as the biggest show on Prime Video — a new season every two years for a show this expensive isn’t a bad turnaround time. The fate of the show beyond Season 3 has yet to be officially decided, but it's likely Prime Video continues investing in this massive fantasy property, which is currently planned to run for five seasons.
There’s also The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum to look forward to, but it’s harder to be excited about that right now, considering the film won’t be in theaters until December 17, 2027. Just yesterday, the first official look at Sauron in The Rings of Power Season 3 was revealed, and as marketing picks up, another new look at the show was unveiled this afternoon. This time around, it’s Gandalf who is the subject of the new Rings of Power Season 3 image. Played by Daniel Weyman, who masqueraded as The Stranger for the first two seasons of the show until it was finally confirmed that he was Gandalf. Weyman is the first person besides Ian McKellen to play Gandalf in live-action since Peter Jackson’s original Lord of the Rings trilogy hit theaters.
Who Else Stars in ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Season 3?
In addition to Daniel Weyman returning as Gandalf in The Rings of Power Season 3, Charlie Vickers will also be back as Sauron, now two seasons removed from shedding his alias as Halbrand. Morfydd Clark will also star as Galadriel in The Rings of Power Season 3, the same elf who was once played by the great Cate Blanchett in Peter Jackson’s original trilogy. While Ismael Cruz Cordova and Robert Aramayo are expected back as Arondir and Elrond, Charles Edwards will likely not return as Lord Celebrimbor.
