Rennae Stubbs reveals latest update on Carlos Alcaraz’s return from wrist injury

Rennae Stubbs reveals latest update on Carlos Alcaraz’s return from wrist injury

Serena Williams' coach, Rennae Stubbs, commented on his injury by sharing her opinion during a podcast.

After the injury he sustained at the Barcelona Open, the Spanish tennis player confirmed shortly afterwards that he would be absent from the next two Grand Slams, Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner took advantage of this momentum. While the German won Roland Garros, the Italian managed to win the Wimbledon title.

The Spaniard plans to return before the US Open, and is registered for the Cincinnati Open. However, the Spanish tennis player was recently seen during the FIFA World Cup final with a wrist guard.

Rennae Stubbs reacts

Serena Williams' coach, Rennae Stubbs, commented on his injury by sharing her opinion during a podcast. After speculation about his health, Rennae Stubbs nevertheless confirmed that she had heard positive information about his chances of playing in Cincinnati.

Stubbs believes that Alcaraz will stay in America and train on hard courts, and that tennis fans will once again enjoy his extraordinary moves.

“He is in the United States and the word on the street is that he is going to try and play in Cincinnati,” said Stubbs.

“If that is the case, I can’t imagine that he would have gone back to Spain [after the World Cup]. I would imagine that he would centre himself on a hard court somewhere and practice before Cincinnati. It will be a great relief to tennis fans across the world to see him back and playing.”

Rennae Stubbs went on to point out that his fitness is good, so she believes the Spanish tennis player can play at the top level.

“His fitness will be good, because you can do anything you want with a wrist injury to a certain degree.

He is not going to be lifting anything above his head but certainly his legs will have been worked hard, so physically he should be okay.

Getting back on the tennis court and hitting tennis balls is really the predominant thing that he needs to do, hopefully that happens,” she concluded.

World Cup and the wrist support

Regarding Alcaraz's appearance at the World Cup and the wrist support, the reactions of the experts were mostly cautious, but not alarming.

Andy Roddick was among those who reacted the most, admitting that he was initially concerned when he saw the wrist protection, but later offered a different explanation. He believes that the protection may not indicate that the injury has worsened, but rather that Alcaraz wanted to take extra precautions and protect his wrist while being surrounded by a large crowd.

Roddick noted that he himself would use some type of protection to avoid shaking hands with large numbers of people after his wrist injury.

Some analysts and fans expressed concern because Alcaraz has been out of action for a long time due to an injury to his right wrist, and the fact that he was wearing protection a few weeks before his planned return opened the question of whether he is fully ready for the Cincinnati Open.

On the other hand, many believe that there is no reason to panic because athletes often wear protection even after the injury has been repaired, especially when they want to avoid accidental hits, sudden movements or physical contact with people. On social media, many fans have also mentioned this very possibility; that the protection is more preventive than a sign of a new problem.

Carlos Alcaraz has not been very vocal about his injury in the media, emphasizing that his goal is to fully recover before returning to the tennis courts.

However, his team has confirmed that the Spaniard should be ready for the next challenge in America, and fans have reacted enthusiastically on social media.

We have no doubt that the 23-year-old will find the adrenaline he needs, especially considering that Jannik Sinner did not have a real challenge in the last tournament.

What's next?

Carlos Alcaraz will make his long-awaited return to the tennis court at the Cincinnati Open in August after recovering from an injury to his right wrist.

The Spaniard has been out of action since April, when he suffered an injury during the tournament in Barcelona, which forced him to miss Roland Garros and Wimbledon. However, the organizers of the tournament in Cincinnati confirmed that his name is on the official entry list for this Masters tournament.

The Cincinnati Open, a tournament from the Masters 1000 series, will be played from August 13 to 23, and Alcaraz will defend the title there. This is followed by the US Open in New York, the last Grand Slam tournament of the season, which is played from August 31 to September 13, where he will try to win his second trophy in this tournament.

Although Alcaraz is on the entry list, his team has emphasized that they will not rush his return or take any risks unless his wrist is fully healed. For that reason, he also skipped the Canadian Masters in Montreal to give himself more time to prepare for the hard-court season.
