Phoebe Cates was only a teenager when she rose to stardom in her red bikini in The Fast Times at Ridgemont High. But the star, who turns 63 today, is now more stunning than ever.
Cates, 63, hit it big as Linda in 1982's Fast Times opposite Jennifer Jason Leigh and Judge Reinhold. That high school comedy went down in history as an absolute classic, and continues to entertain audiences today. But Cates also forged a path in additional roles. She later starred in films like the hit Gremlins and cult-favorite Drop Dead Fred, before ditching acting to raise her family. She only returned for rare appearances, like in 2001’s indieThe Anniversary Party, in which she appeared alongside her real-life husband and children.
Who Is Phoebe Cates Married To?
Cates is married to beloved actor Kevin Kline, 78, who blew audiences away in the ’80s with roles in Sophie’s Choice, The Big Chill, The Pirates of Penzance, Cry Freedom, and his Academy Award-winning turn in A Fish Called Wanda. He continued his rise to film domination in the ’90s with the blockbusters Wild Wild West and In & Out.
“I was 40-ish, when I finally stopped obsessing about acting and thought it would be nice to have a life and actually got married,” Kline told The Guardian in 2014.
The duo has two adult children, Owen and Greta.
Kline Headed Back to Comedy in His Latest Role
While Cates doesn't act anymore, Kline is still thriving in films and TV. He returned to comedy in American Classic, in which he plays Richard Bean, a Broadway star who suffers “a spectacular public meltdown after receiving a terrible review and returns home to the family theater where he first became aware of his own brilliance,” according to Deadline. The actor stars with a laundry list of talent in the MGM+ series, including Laura Linney, Jessica Hecht, Tony Shalhoub, and Jon Tenney.
