Marcus’ 4 a.m. Wednesday forecast
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Central Indiana is enjoying a rare July break as a cold front moves through, bringing cooler air and a marked drop in humidity that will make the next few days feel more like September than late summer.
Refreshing Relief Through Friday
High pressure building into the region will keep skies mostly clear and conditions comfortable through the end of the workweek. As drier air filters down from the north, dew points are expected to drop into the 50s today and could even dip into the upper 40s by this afternoon.
When was the last time you experienced dew points in the 40s during late July? It’s a rare treat that will make outdoor activities far more pleasant than what we’ve seen in recent weeks.
High temperatures will stay mostly in the 70s to low 80s through Friday-well below the typical mid-90s we often see this time of year. While clouds will increase Friday as a weak disturbance approaches from the west, sinking dry air should keep any precipitation from forming, maintaining our dry streak through the end of the workweek.
Warming Up This Weekend
The comfortable stretch continues for most of the weekend as high pressure remains the dominant weather feature. However, a shift in the wind pattern will start to pull warmer air and more moisture back into Indiana by Saturday afternoon.
Highs will climb back into the 80s on Saturday-still pleasant, but noticeably warmer than the midweek cooldown. Sunday will bring even warmer conditions as temperatures push toward the lower 90s in some spots, particularly south of Indianapolis.
You’ll notice the difference in how the air feels, too. While Saturday will still be relatively comfortable, Sunday will see humidity levels creeping back up as southerly winds return.
Heat and Storm Chances Return
By late Sunday and into early next week, the humidity returns in force. Dew points are forecast to climb back into the low to mid-70s, which could push peak heat indices near 100 degrees by Monday afternoon.
This is when we transition from the pleasant midweek weather back to typical oppressive July conditions. If you have outdoor activities planned for early next week, schedule them for early morning or late evening to avoid the worst of the heat.
This return of tropical moisture will also bring the chance for showers and thunderstorms.
