Red Sox's latest pitching promotion could unveil next breakout prospect

The Boston Red Sox have a young pitcher already making waves, and his promotion is something worth keeping an eye on.

The Boston Red Sox are promoting Sadbiel Delzine from the FCL Red Sox, according to Chris Hatfield of SoxProspects.com.

Continuing to reward strong performances throughout their farm system, Delzine is getting that opportunity. There has been a list of promotions given to players over the last few days: Blake Wehunt to Triple-A, Mason White to Double-A, Trennor O'Donnell to High-A, and now the Venezuelan native is part of the RidgeYaks for the next stretch.

At just 18 years old, Delzine has quickly established himself as one of the organization's most intriguing young pitching prospects in baseball. Signed out of the Dominican Republic during the 2024 international signing period, the right-hander has steadily turned heads with a combination of electric stuff and athleticism beyond his years on the mound.

Delzine earned his promotion by dominating FCL competition. Last year, he pitched only 9 1/3 innings before being shut down due to a mild flexor strain. He had an ERA of 4.82 with nine strikeouts before his season ended.

But this year, across 39 2/3 innings, he posted a 2.72 ERA while striking out 43 batters, consistently overpowering opposing hitters with a fastball that has touched 100 mph and has one of the best changeups in baseball for his age. He also has an 11" to 5" curveball that has been standing out this year. Delzine is 6'5", 255 lbs, and has gained over 50 lbs since his signing in 2024.

Sadbiel Delzine could have a bright future in Boston

There have been many high risers in the Red Sox's pitching department over the last few seasons, including now-former Red Sox catcher Kyle Teel, current Red Sox pitcher Payton Tolle, and Anthony Eyanson. Delzine is looking to add to that list.

While his raw stuff has drawn tons of attention, Delzine's poise may be just as encouraging. He has shown the confidence to pitch inside and trust his secondary offerings rather than relying solely on velocity. Those qualities often separate intriguing arms from legitimate pitching prospects.

There is still a long road ahead. Delzine is years away from Fenway Park, and like any teenage pitcher, he will need to continue refining his command and build the durability necessary for a professional workload. But the early signs are certainly encouraging.

For the Red Sox, promotions like this are reminders of the organization's growing investment in pitching development. Boston has assembled a great collection of young arms throughout its farm system, and Delzine is rapidly becoming another name worth following.

His performance in Salem will be closely watched over the second half of the season. If he continues to miss bats while showing the same composure he displayed in the Florida Complex League, Delzine could climb prospect rankings just as quickly as he climbed the Red Sox organizational ladder.
