They're so pretty!

My favorite thing about Doodles, as a person who would never even consider having a Doodle of my own, is that you can make a Doodle out of just about any dog breed on the planet... And a Poodle. It's simple, and every time, the puppies take my breath away!

Recently, one dog mom accidentally ended up with a litter of Dalmatian-Doodle (Dalmadoodle) puppies. It's a Doodle I've never seen before, but they're absolutely precious:

Nonie G. was not expecting puppies at any point, but it seems like her Dalmatian didn't get the message. The Goldendoodle is the mom in this situation, and she's absolutely stunning. She was stunning enough on her own, but for some reason, decided she also needed to have puppies.

The resulting puppies, though accidental, are gorgeous. They're still young, so it's too early to tell what their adult coats will look like, but they're already covered in spots. Hopefully, as they grow up, they'll get even curlier!

The other thing we know about the puppies is that they're already causing chaos and getting into trouble. Recently, when their human caretaker's powdered donut went missing, the culprit was pretty clearly one of them:

I wonder who it was. This mystery may live forever. When the puppies go off to their forever homes, I hope they never lose their sparkle!

Preventing Accidental Puppies

In Nonie's case, by the time she found out her dog was pregnant, it was likely too late to safely terminate the pregnancy. While some vets will spay-abort up until active labor, the surgery is a little riskier when they're further along. However, spay-abortions aren't the only way to prevent an accidental litter.

The easiest way to make sure you won't have accidental puppies with intact dogs is to either not have opposite-sex pairs, or if you do, make sure at least one of them is spayed or neutered. You could also:

  • Track your female's heat cycles and remove the male during that time.
  • Keep them apart in separate rooms of your home.
  • Keep her away from any other dogs in the neighborhood during that time.

If you have an unspayed female, intact males will seek her out, and impregnation can legitimately happen without you noticing. Always monitor for signs of pregnancy in the weeks following her heat cycle.

In Nonie's case, they decided to have these gorgeous puppies, but that won't be right for everyone. Always follow your vet's advice above anything else!
