Plano detectives shot a person suspected of burglary during an exchange of gunfire at a Carrollton gas station Wednesday morning, police said.
Plano and Carrollton police are investigating the shooting that happened at 4:20 a.m. at a RaceTrac gas station at 4621 International Parkway near Midway Road in Carrollton, said Jerry Minton, a spokesman for Plano police.
Plano police did not immediately confirm to The Dallas Morning News the number of officers involved in the shooting or the age of the male who was shot.
The shooting stemmed from an investigation into suspects from a prior burglary, Minton said. Plano detectives were surveying and following the suspects during the early morning when they stopped at the gas station, Minton said. One of the suspects opened fire as the detectives approached their vehicle, Minton said.
The officers and the group exchanged fire, and one of the male suspects was shot an unknown amount of times, Minton said. The male was taken to a hospital. His condition is unknown as he undergoes surgery. Another male suspect was injured, but not from the shooting, Minton said.
Three of the four people involved were 17 years old or younger, Minton said. Two of them have been taken into custody.
The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on leave, and Carrollton police are leading the criminal investigation, Minton said.
