It was recently reported that the Los Angeles Lakers are signing Arthur Kaluma to a two-way contract, which does not come as a surprise after his breakout Summer League performance.
Considering the Lakers already had three players signed to two-way contracts in Chris Mañon, AK Okereke and Peter Suder though, they would need to waive one of them in order to add Kaluma. According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN, it will be Suder getting cut:
This decision doesn’t come as a major surprise as Suder was the least impressive of the three two-way players during Summer League. He flashed his playmaking and shooting abilities but overall struggled to match the physicality at the NBA level. The Lakers made the Las Vegas Summer League semifinals, but Suder was not in the rotation in the loss to the Golden State Warriors, which is a sign that this was coming.
Suder originally signed with the Lakers as an undrafted free agent out of Miami (Ohio). He was named the MAC Player of the Year in his senior season, averaging 14.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting 54.6% from the field and 42.1% beyond the arc.
If he does not land another two-way contract elsewhere, then perhaps Suder rejoins the Lakers for training camp on an Exhibit 10 contract before moving over to their G League team in Coachella Valley for the 2026-27 season to continue his development. He had nan exceptional college career and flashed his potential at points during Summer League.
Cameron Carr eager to continue learning with Lakers
One of the other standouts for the Lakers in Summer League was their first-round draft pick Cameron Carr, who is looking like a steal at No. 24 overall.
Carr will have an opportunity to compete for rotation minutes with the Lakers during his rookie season, but coming out of Summer League he is just looking forward to continuing to learn from his coaches and teammates.
“Yeah, it’s important,” Carr said. “Keep continuing to learn and grow, like I said. I can only be where my feet are right now and we just lost the game. So, just go to the drawing board, keep learning and keep growing as a player.”
The Lakers have wanted to invest in player development, and Carr and their other two-way players are a great chance to follow through with that this upcoming season.
