POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Pennsylvania truck driver was arrested Monday after authorities say he stole items from a Davenport travel center and then drove back to the store shortly after fleeing.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a retail theft report on July 20, 2026, at Love’s Travel Stop, located at 45000 US 27 near Davenport. According to law enforcement, a man took merchandise from the business and walked out without paying for the items.
A store employee confronted the man regarding the unpaid items, but he ignored the worker and walked to a Peterbilt semi-truck registered to Spot Edge Trucking, Inc. He then left the parking lot and drove south on US 27.
Responding deputies reached out to a dispatcher for Spot Edge Trucking following the incident. Shortly after that contact, the suspect turned around and returned to the travel center.
Deputies arrested 42-year-old Maurice McCall of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was charged with second-degree retail petit theft.
McCall was transported to the Sheriff’s Processing Center for booking, and his semi-truck was impounded and towed from the scene.
