Paul Wesley spent some time at the Jersey Shore, and even crossed paths with Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino at one point.
The actor grew up “20 minutes” away from the beach, so before his Vampire Diaries fame, Wesley and his friends lived the classic “gym, tan, laundry” life while at a house in Belmar, N.J.
Wesley said during Wednesday’s Call Her Daddy podcast episode that he could have been cast on MTV’s Jersey Shore with all the lifting weights and eyebrow waxing going on.
“It was so pathetic,” Wesley quipped, noting that he would “walk around” in “tank tops” all the time. However, the actor’s time at the Jersey Shore came full circle as he rose to fame.
“It’s a funny story,” he recalled. “I remember I was in my 20s and I was doing something for The Vampire Diaries. Somehow, they’re like, ‘The cast of the Jersey Shore is here.’”
Wesley continued, “The guy who plays The Situation. ... That guy, he comes up to me, and he’s like, ‘Hey Paul.’ I was like, ‘Hey.’ He’s like, ‘We used to hang out in the Jersey Shore.’”
The CW alum asked a few of his friends to confirm, and it turned out that Sorrentino would “go out” with Wesley’s core group.
“I was part of the Jersey Shore. Fist-bumping,” Wesley added, joking that “for all I know” he could have been out with Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi as well.
As the episode continued, Wesley admitted that he leaned into all the Jersey stereotypes during his younger years.
“Of course I got a spray tan,” he said. “I shouldn’t be admitting this but, I’m telling you, when I was 17 and we used to — it was all about how big our muscles are. I was 40 pounds heavier. It was all about muscles and being tan and making sure you have no chest hair.”
Wesley said he would “get into fist fights all the time” with his friends.
Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper compared Wesley’s real-life experience to his The O.C. character, Donnie.
“I was only on one episode,” he said. “You’d be surprised how many people come up to me and go, ‘Donnie!’ It is the craziest thing.”

Wesley said he “played myself, basically” for his one-episode stint in the show’s first season, which aired in 2003.
“I shot somebody. I shot the blonde guy. I was like, ‘Yeah, bitch,’” he said. “I shot Luke (Chris Carmack). I had a gun. ... Roll the clip with Donnie.”
Wesley continued, “I was so Jersey. ... Didn’t have to study for that role at all.”
