Pat McAfee rallies behind Brexton Busch after unexpected win in father Kyle’s car

When Kyle Busch passed away in May, it was natural to expect his family to take a break from their routines to heal and move on. While they did, his son Brexton had different plans.

Brexton honored his father by coming back to racing just days after the tragic incident in early June. And now, two months later, he has secured his first win since his dad’s passing, that too in his father’s green No. 18.

And as he did that, the sporting world, including sports analyst Pat McAfee, couldn’t help but give a shoutout to the young racer in making.

“Brexton wins his first race. Hey, as us being former friends and friends of your father, Brexton, let’s go, boy. Hell yeah, Brexton. Let’s go, boy. Let’s go win this thing,” McAfee said on his Pat McAfee Show on X.

Brexton Busch won the Restricted Micro Sprint A-Main feature race at Port City Raceway in Tulsa, Oklahoma. And it was far from an easy one. He charged back from the 14^th place to take the victory.

The 11-year-old took part in multiple divisions at the track. After the victory, he made an emotional gesture as he performed his father’s iconic bow celebration and posted on his X account.

“I don’t like to talk about it much, but the last two months have been really tough. I’m missing my crew cheif, my driver coach, my dad, the guy who I looked up to more anyone,” Brexton wrote on his social media accounts after the race.

Before this, Brexton had returned to competition at Charlotte for the Cook Out Summer Shootout, where he finished sixth in the Young Lions Legends division.

Then, a few days ago, he raced in the Jr. Late Model and Bandolero divisions for Wilson Motorsports. In one of them, he started from 18^th to finish 9^th.

Samantha Busch is proud but shattered

“First win since losing Kyle. I’ve never felt so proud and so heartbroken at the same time,” wrote Samantha on Instagram after Brexton’s win.

Busch passed away on May 21 due to pneumonia, and ever since then, Samantha has been taking to social media to express her feelings about life after her husband.

She mentioned how there was nothing that made Kyle happier than seeing Brexton race, and seeing their son race only reminded her of Kyle.

“Brexton continues to amaze me with his determination, his resilience, the way he keeps showing up to do what he loves even while carrying so much at such a young age.”
