From calling plays to playing songs, Pat McAfee is stepping into a new arena.
The sports media personality, podcast host and former NFL All-Pro punter has announced his debut album, The Diary of a Polarizing Figure, which is set to arrive on Aug. 14. The project marks McAfee’s first full-length release and adds another unexpected chapter to a career that has already taken him from the NFL to the top tier of sports media.
McAfee shared the news in a July 22 Instagram post, revealing that the album is built from songs, stories and ideas he has been writing for much of his life.
“For as long as I can remember my mere existence has made people hate my guts… literally since elementary school. Teachers, administrators, other parents, you name it.. I didn’t understand it as a child but throughout my life I’ve come to realize that this is just how it’s gonna be,” he wrote.

McAfee continued, “I’ve been writing songs about it all for 20yrs. It’s time to let them aht.. There’s A LOT of headlines & narratives about me.. if I was to die, I’d like my kids to know exactly who and what their dad is.”
According to him, the album was brought to life in Nashville with the help of country star ERNEST and a team of musicians.
“With incredible assistance from @ernest and many other INSANELY talented musicians in Nashville, my words have come to life. I’m very proud of what we’ve put together,” he concluded.
While McAfee is best known for his work in football and broadcasting, music has apparently been part of the background for years. He first previewed that side of himself with the release of “Dookie,” a 90-second country-rock track that dropped in December. The Diary of a Polarizing Figure expands on that effort, drawing from his personal experiences, public scrutiny and the larger-than-life persona that has made him one of the most talked-about people in sports media.
McAfee spent eight seasons in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts, earning two Pro Bowl selections and a First-Team All-Pro nod before retiring from football in 2017. Since then, he has built a media empire around The Pat McAfee Show, transforming the once-independent program into one of the most influential properties in sports talk.
Known for his high-energy delivery, outspoken opinions and loyal fanbase, McAfee has become a fixture across ESPN, college football broadcasts and WWE programming. His rise from former punter to media powerhouse has made him one of the most recognizable personalities in sports entertainment.
Now, he’s bringing that same larger-than-life approach to music.
The Diary of a Polarizing Figure arrives on Aug. 14.
