A traveler was left puzzled after checking the seating map for an upcoming flight and noticing something unusual that sparked thousands of reactions online.
In a viral Reddit post shared on Thursday under the username u/F3VERDR34M, the passenger posted screenshots of a plane seating chart after spotting an unexpected symbol throughout the cabin.
The images showed that many seats on the map were marked with a paw icon instead of the usual “x” or blank space often seen when selecting seats. The unusual markings appeared all around the poster’s chosen seat, prompting questions about whether they could be surrounded by animals during the flight.
Confused by what they were seeing, the Reddit user turned to the platform for answers.
“Am I sitting with pets???” the caption says. “Just checked my seating for my upcoming flight. Am I for sure sitting in between a couple of furry friends or are the seats beside me unoccupied?!”
According to Dogster’s review of pet travel statistics, traveling with pets is becoming increasingly common as more owners view animals as family members.
Many pet owners choose trips that include their pets, with a large number adjusting plans around pet-friendly options. Hotels are responding by offering more pet accommodations, while road trips remain the most popular travel method.
Dogs represent the largest share of traveling pets worldwide, followed by cats. Many travelers seek outdoor destinations such as hiking areas and fresh-air locations. Some owners even shorten vacations or change transportation choices because of their pets.
The post gained significant traction on Reddit, where it has received more than 2,900 upvotes and over 230 comments.
One user, AHuxl, said in the comments section: “Those are just the seats that are available for pets. When I flew with my cat we had to make him a reservation because there are a certain number of animals allowed on each flight (cant remember the exact number but it was low—like 2 or 3?).”
IcyPlant9129 wrote: “Bro might be flying to Zootopia.”
Another user, Revolutionary_Art919 added: “I would pay extra for those seats. Even more if they’re all golden retrievers.”
