New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo faced criticism after his recent backflip attempt resulted in a scary stumble on the Fanatics Fest stage in New York City.
Despite the awkward landing, Skattebo later indicated he was fine, and there was no need to worry over any injuries before the Giants’ season starts. His head coach, John Harbaugh, also brushed off the incident with a joke.
“I haven’t talked to him yet; I’m gonna talk to him, I’m sure. My reaction was this: ‘Dude, at least stick it. Land the thing if you’re gonna do it,'” Harbaugh said when asked about the video that went viral on social media.
Initially, there may have been cause for concern due to the second-year player’s season-ending injury last October. In Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles, Skattebo suffered an ankle injury and left the game, then was ruled out for the rest of the Giants’ season.
A later report from ESPN indicated Skattebo suffered an open tibia fracture, ruptured deltoid ligament, and a dislocated right ankle, resulting in immediate surgery. Since then, Skattebo has been recovering, although his recent attempt to show off backfired.

Reportedly, Skattebo said he enjoys doing backflips since he was younger and that the ground he was on was a “firm, stiff ground,” so that added to his scary-looking landing. Skattebo popped up after his fall and seemed to dismiss it as anything serious at the event.
“So nothing came out of that. I’m perfectly fine. Nothing happened. We’re good,” he said, per SI.com’s Patricia Traina.
Traina also reported that Skattebo said he’s “good to go” for training camp after recovering from his injury and surgery. A promising rookie for the team last season, he racked up 410 yards and five touchdowns on 101 carries before his season-ending injury.
Along with that, Skattebo tallied 24 receptions for 207 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing his versatility as a running back. Once he went out due to injury, Tyrone Tracy Jr. became the main running back, with quarterback Jaxson Dart and Devin Singletary also compiling rushing yards and touchdowns to lead the Giants.
Unfortunately, they had another disappointing campaign, finishing at 4-13 and outside of the playoffs again. The team last appeared in the postseason in 2022.
“Skat’s gonna be ready to go, and he’s been working super hard,” Harbaugh shared during his “Bleav In Giants” chat. “He’s really been training like crazy, and his mind is on camp … He’s healthy. He’s ready to roll, and I can’t wait to see him out there at practice.”
With Skattebo back, receiver Malik Nabers eventually returning, and Dart’s potential emergence as more of a star mobile quarterback, Harbaugh seems to have a talented, young roster to work with in his first season as the team’s head coach.
The Giants camp is at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, starting on Tuesday, July 28. The team plays its first NFL preseason game on Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Minnesota Vikings.
And it won’t be much longer until the regular season begins with Skattebo and the Giants taking on the Dallas Cowboys in a season-opening game for NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” on Sunday, Sept. 13.
