The Panthers placed right tackle Taylor Moton and cornerback Jaycee Horn on the active/non-football injury list yesterday. More procedural moves have taken place today.

Carolina announced on Tuesday that left tackle Ikem Ekwonu and defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton have each been placed on the active/physically unable to perform list. Like all players on active/PUP at the start of training camp, they can be activated at any time. The same is also true of defensive tackle Bobby Brown, who joins Moton and Horn on the Panthers’ active/NFI list.

Ekwonu continues to recover from the torn patellar tendon he suffered in Carolina’s wild-card loss. The injury is set to keep him sidelined through the start of the season, although general manager Dan Morgan said Ekwonu has made progress in recent months. Returning to action at some point in 2026 remains the goal in this case.

“He’s in a really good place,” Morgan said (via NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport). “The doctors and the training staff, they’re really feeling good about where he’s at right now. It’s just a credit to Ickey and who he is, attacking this rehab.”

Wharton underwent neck surgery last month. As such, today’s news comes as little surprise. The 2025 free agent signing is in danger of missing regular-season time, depending on the nature of his recovery. Brown had not previously been mentioned as a candidate to miss practices in camp, although many cases of NFI placements prove to be very short-lived.

Panthers veterans report to training camp tomorrow in advance of this year’s Hall of Fame game. It will be interesting to see if any other Carolina players wind up on an injury list in the near future as a result.
