The Void Century is one of the most important periods in the history of One Piece. It was during this dark time that Imu and his loyalists destroyed the Ancient Kingdom and removed almost all traces of it. They also began punishing anyone who previously tried to stand in their way.
While the World Government has done its best to eliminate all the evidence, it cannot erase fate. Several One Piece characters still have ties to the Void Century. Naturally, they hold a lot of significance, and they will be involved in the highly anticipated Final Saga.
Monkey D. Luffy

Monkey D. Luffy is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates and one of the Four Emperors of the Sea. Ever since Luffy defeated Kaido, he has ascended to a level beyond most pirates. The current version of Luffy is widely respected and even admired, mainly because of his absurd strength.
However, strength isn't the only thing that makes Luffy such a standout character. The truth is, Luffy is connected to the Void Century. His Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika was once in the possession of Joyboy, Imu's greatest enemy. The World Government has gone to great lengths to snag the Devil Fruit, only to be met with failure. In addition to this, Luffy is also a member of the D. Clan.
Shirahoshi
- Affiliation: Fish-Man Island
Shirahoshi is the daughter of Neptune and the princess of the Ryugu Kingdom. Years before she was even born, it was prophesied that a mermaid would inherit the powers of the legendary Poseidon. In the Fishman Island arc, it became clear that Shirahoshi was the person from the legend.
Since Shirahoshi is Poseidon, she is connected to the Void Century rather deeply. There is an emphasis on fate and inherited will in One Piece, and Shirahoshi likely has the same desire as the previous Poseidon. She realizes her obligations as an Ancient Weapon go beyond just ordering Sea Kings. In fact, Shirahoshi will inevitably team up with the current Nika and fulfill the promise made before the Void Century.
Nerfertari Vivi

Nefertari Vivi is the current queen of Alabasta. Since the Alabasta Arc, it was clear that Vivi had the potential to become a great leader. She risked her life and limb to save her country, which was on the brink of civil war, and later she helped her father to rebuild it.
Until recently, Vivi didn't seem to have any kind of connection to the Void Century, but that changed after it was revealed that she is a descendant of Nerfertari D. Lily. According to the information available, Lily was betrayed and likely murdered by Imu and his underlings. Vivi's heritage alone makes her a threat to the World Government, and it would cause the organization great problems if she were to rebel against it. Let's not forget that Imu has been actively searching for Vivi, so clearly, she has an important role to play in the story.
Blackbeard
- Affiliation: Blackbeard Pirates, Hachinosu
Blackbeard is the son of the legendary pirate, Davy D. Xebec. His parenthood alone makes Blackbeard one of the biggest threats to the existence of the World Government. Since Blackbeard is a descendant of Davy D. Jones, Imu is doubly wary of him. It has been confirmed that Davy D. Jones used to rule the world at one point, and Imu likely ended his reign.
Later, Davy D. Xebec tried to reclaim his ancestor's lost throne. However, he failed, and now, his son is actively trying to accomplish it. In fact, Blackbeard has already set things in motion. He has obtained two of the deadliest Devil Fruits in the world and created a crew of the most notorious criminals in the world. He is on the right track, unless he's stopped by his rivals.
Shanks
- Affiliation: Red Hair Pirates
Shanks is the only character on this list who doesn't have a direct connection to the Void Century, but at the same time, it would be a major oversight to believe that he won't be linked to it somehow. A lot of One Piece characters believe that Shanks is the chosen one. Even Scopper Gaban is confident that Shanks is the "Child of Fate."
Shanks is one of the few people who know about the reality of the World Government, which makes him even more important to the overall plot. With the story quickly moving towards its climax, fans can definitely expect to see him being more involved.
Kozuki Momonosuke

At the time of his introduction, almost no one would have predicted that he would go on to have one of the most important roles in One Piece. In the Wano Country arc, he showed his mettle and proved that he was ready to lead Wano into a new era.
Surprisingly, Momonosuke is also connected to the Void Century. Fans already know that the craftsmen of Wano were responsible for creating the Poneglyphs, which contain the true history of the world. It's quite obvious that they were connected to the Great Kingdom that was annihilated by the World Government. It's quite apparent that the history of Wano and the Ancient Kingdom is tied together, which is why Momonosuke, as the leader of the former nation, is also connected.
