One killed, another hurt when vehicle crashes into trees and flips, SC cops say
South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal collision.

The victim died at the scene of the wreck, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

One person was killed Monday when a pickup truck and tractor trailer collided, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The collision happened at about 2 p.m. in Anderson County, said Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover.

A 2015 Dodge Ram pickup was driving on Milford Road, and a 2018 Peterbilt tractor trailer was heading south on S.C. 243, according to Glover. At the intersection, near Lake Hartwell, the trucks collided, Glover said.

There were two people in the Dodge, and one of them died at the scene, according to Glover.

The Anderson County Coroner’s Office said 40-year-old Marion, North Carolina, resident Jose Carmen Joaquin Morales was the person who died, WHNS reported. It was not clear if he was the pickup driver or passenger.

Glover said that neither the other person in the pickup nor the driver of the tractor trailer were hurt, and no other injuries were reported.

There was no word if anyone involved in the wreck was wearing a seatbelt, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.

Through Sunday, 464 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2026, according to the state Department of Public Safety. A minimum of 914 people were killed in collisions in South Carolina in 2025, DPS data shows.

At least 22 people have died in Anderson County crashes this year, and 37 people died in wrecks there in 2025, according to DPS data.
