Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss breaks silence on Auburn transfer Deuce Knight

The way Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Trinidad Chambliss talked about his new teammate, Auburn Tigers transfer QB Deuce Knight, was exactly what Pete Golding and anyone in the Oxford, Mississippi, vortex would want to hear.

Chambliss was highly complimentary of Knight on Wednesday, saying, “Having Deuce to our quarterback room is sweet. Just another mind to bounce off of when watching film and in practice. He loves to learn as well too. He loves to talk football and he’s going to be a great player.”

Knight committed to Ole Miss under the pretense that he'd potentially be taking over the starting job, given Chambliss's unknown status in January. After a back-and-forth with a court in the Chancery Court of Lafayette County, Mississippi, Chambliss got a favorable ruling. That ruling wasn't favorable for Knight.

Knight has been a good teammate despite the heartbreak in spite of it. Clearly, that has stuck with Chambliss, who enters the year with expectations to continue the winning cause. Of course, Chambliss took over after an Austin Simmons injury last year, so both understand the importance of staying ready.

So far, both QBs are thriving in their respective roles in the Rebels' room. The quotes being produced from the friendly competition in Tampa for SEC Media Days are music to any Ole Miss fan's ears. That makes it all even sweeter.

Deuce Knight isn't QB1 because Pete Golding knows how to recruit

Funny enough, the man most responsible for Knight starting the 2026 season as QB2 on The Grove, besides Chancery Court Judge Robert Whitwell, is Coach Golding. Chambliss, running back Kewan Lacy, and the other Rebels retained in the offseason were sold by Golding on the potential hate they'd receive for leaving.

"I said Google Lane Kiffin. The dude that they would have built a statue of here three days ago. Google his name right now. They wouldn’t piss on him if he’s on fire. And so they’re gonna do the same thing to y’all two if you do that," Golding revealed he told them on Wednesday during the third day of the 2026 SEC Football Media Days.

To be fair, no player would've ever been collectively hated as much as Lane Kiffin. Leaving Ole Miss before the CFP is still the most selfish decision anyone has ever made to screw his program over. Still, there would have been crazy Rebels fans taking aim at Chambliss, Lacy, and Co. if they decided to similarly ditch Ole Miss.

Knight doesn't have to deal with that for leaving Auburn. Tiger fans understand why he decided to leave, since Alex Golesh's plan was always to bring Byrum Brown over from the USF Bulls in the portal. Hugh Freeze was supposed to make Knight a star. Once he was gone, the writing was on the wall.

Now, Knight simply has to wait his turn with the Rebels' offense, since another transfer would cost him a season of eligibility and live-game reps for a year. It'll be easier to do that with Chambliss doing what he can to make the Lucedale product's arrival at his home state's flagship school as smooth as possible.
