“We like to create that special, nostalgic ice cream experience,” CEO Renato DePaolis says.

Oberweis Ice Cream and Dairy Store is open in Glen Carbon.

The store had a ribbon-cutting event July 21 at its new location at 2443 Troy Road. Oberweis has 42 locations; this is the first in the Metro East.

"Our experience is all about family, creating those special moments — whether it's after a sporting event, a club event, school, good weather or bad weather," Oberweis CEO Renato DePaolis said. "We like to create kind of that special, nostalgic ice cream experience. And we think that that's something that we do really well, and we're excited about bringing that to this wonderful community."

Oberweis sells ice cream by the scoop, along with malts, waffle cones and other items. Customers can also purchase ice cream by the pint or quart. Milk, lemonade and tea are available in glass bottles. Customers can return the glass bottles to any Oberweis location.

To mark the opening, the store debuted the Pretzel Party Frostbite, available exclusively at the Glen Carbon location for a limited time. The treat features vanilla soft serve blended with Snickers, pretzels, caramel and chocolate sauce, topped with a chocolate-dipped pretzel.

"We wanted to do something a little sweet, a little salty, something to kind of connect with everybody in the community," DePaolis said. "We're really excited about doing those community flavors, which the community should expect that you'll see from Oberweis."
