The New York Islanders' search for a new third jersey has sparked creativity across Long Island and beyond, with thousands of fans submitting concepts and sharing their ideas online. The overwhelming response to the organization's fan design contest has shown just how passionate Islanders fans remain about the team's identity, and now Matthew Barzal has offered his own vision.
Speaking to the Bleecher Report at Fanatics Fan Fest, Barzal was asked what his ideal Islanders alternate jersey would look like. His answer reflected many of the themes fans have embraced throughout the contest.
"I would go dark navy," Barzal said. "I like the idea of white and orange stripes on the bottom of the jersey."
When asked whether he'd prefer the lighthouse or the fisherman as the focal point, Barzal admitted he likes both iconic (even if debated) symbols of Islanders history.
